Hello, I have a problem with a neighbors Acer Aspire One netbook, it is showing a blue screen on startup: Unmountable_Boot_Volume Stop 0x000000ED (0x8A778B08, 0xC000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) there is no re-installation media, I think she would be happy just to be able to save the data, I have tried installing Ubuntu Linux to a USB drive to extract the data but with no success, I set the boot device to a USB drive, with Ubuntu installed, but nothing happens. I would be very grateful for any help.
Thank You.

FWIW: Unmountable boot volume errors...if mild, can be overcome by running the chkdsk /r command from the XP Recovery Console.

Unmountable Boot Volume - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302

If recoverying data from the hard drive is the primary concern...I would remove the hard drive from the netbook and connect it to a different system and move the data files desired.

Hello Louis, Recovery console is not installed, so no go, but I have another system I can load the hard drive into to extract data, running Ubuntu linux, and then reformat the hard drive, Bye the way, how can I re-install an operating system with no disk drive? as it is a netbook, a usb external disk drive I suppose, which I don't have.
Many thanks for your help.
