My PC used to boot up in under 2 mins until yesterday, I was playing l4d when I suddendly got a "Network connection problem, will disconnect in 20 secs" message and my PC just froze up. I could not use my mouse or keyboard so I had to restart it manually. I noticed that my PC was taking way too long to boot and after it I noticed using Soluto that my Boot up time was 4 mins and 45 secs this time. I went to sleep and booted up my pc today to find out that that problem was still happening. I also got some error messages when the PC booted up, do not have screen shots but I think it had to do with win32 or something like that and my PC is a bit slow not quite noticeable but there is a bit of lag that can be seen when moving the mouse pointer around the screen.

Before this happened I have been having problems with my PC connecting to the internet. I have to boot the PC then restart it again so the Local Network light would light up on my router. Not sure if this would have something to do with the slowness or it is just that my network card is defective or my router.

I ran Malwarebytes, updated it, but didn't find any malicious items. I will defragment my drivers today and see if that helps since I haven't done that since I got this PC 3 years ago...

I would really appreciate the help, the waiting isn't a big deal but it is quite annoying personally.

What do you have running on startup?
and to me even 2 minutes to boot up a pc seemed fairly long.
when you do have your pc running how many process's are running in the task manager?

Download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml). Uncheck anything you don't NEED starting with the system and reboot. What happens?

Carlos - From your thumbnail l can see why it's taking a while to startup.
You've got some real sh** on there that just isn't needed
I could advise what l think you should do, but l dare not.
I am not an expert to this site but just running a suggested program to remove them from the startup is a quick get out clause, and is not the overall solution.
If Allen agrees, l'll make some suggestions.
Regards

Thank you for the replies guys. I'll use the program and see if that helps. I am also defragmenting my C: Drive today to see if that helps since like I said before it's been over 3 years and I haven't done that ever.

I just find it weird that that just started happening all of a sudden since I have had the same amount of processes running for months now and never had that problem.

But, recently I had frequent problems with explorer.exe under Windows XP - it always crashed when I was closing the last one of several running programs or open windows.
That's a known problem under Windows XP, but none of the common hints did help - unless I stopped running Taskbar Shuffle. And see - no crashes anymore!!

Thank You

I don't know if this will help or not, but I used to suffer from slow start ups as well, UNTIL I found a nifty program called 'Tune XP 1.5'. You can defrag boot files AND use a method called 'ultra fast booting'. Tune XP also speeds up your shutdowns and is totally free. Here is the link:

http://download.cnet.com/TuneXP/3000-2086_4-10290929.html (read the user comments on the download page to get an idea of what you're dealing with, also read the program documentation as well)

Finally, Make sure your prefetch files are not being deleted because this can slow your start up time considerably. Good luck.

Thanks for the link but it seems like these are the same as what CCleaner shows.

Well I don't want to have to do anything drastic like a clean install just because of the slow boot ups but I do appreciate anything you guys suggest for sure.

Maybe I'll try disabling Taskbar Shuffle from boot and see if that helps, although I have been using it for months with no problems. Well see what happens, Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply, I'll see if this helps. How would I check to see if the prefetch files where being deleted?

I understand that. You need to follow the rest of my instructions. Uncheck the unnecessary startup items. Then reboot.

Which ones would you think I should disable?

I use Soluto to see how long my pc takes to start and for some reason I can't stop google update and punkbusterA from starting at start up. I went to CCleaner and stopped google update from start up but I don't know how to remove the punkbuster process..

I defragmented my C:Drive last night but it seems the problem wasn't related to that, I had hopes that was the problem because I recently moved my Steam install to another driver which was almost 90 GBs of data.

Thanks guys for all the help, hopefully I can fix this soon it is a bit annoying.

I just did a system restore to April 1st on my system and the boot time went down to just under 3 mins and my PC isn't laggy when starting.

I also noticed with Soluto that everything was taking a ridiculous amount of time to start, for example; Google helper(I still can't pause it though) was taking 20 secs while now it took 3 secs to start, rocketdock was taking 6 secs and now it took only 0.6 secs. I also noticed that for some reason I had 2 instances of the Google Updater on my processes. Not sure what happened or what I did but hopefully it won't happen again that bad, I still want to reduce the boot time better or as it was before so all the help is appreciated.

System Still Slow?
You may wish to try StartupLite.
This can also remove some of the extras you are talking about -

Thank You

Along with a LONG list of unnecessary programs I see evidence of multiple infections.

Download, install update and run MalwareBytes Antimalware..
Do the full scan. It could take a while. Remove everything that it finds & let us know how it works out.
In the beginning there was the command line.
