Hello,

I recently bought an ASUS Motherboard M2N68-AM PLUS and a AMD Phenom II x4 920 Quad Core OEM CPU.

My computer is running great, but when it boots, there's a black screen with this message:
"This CPU is not supported by this model. Please check CPU QVL on ASUS website"

After I checked the CPU support list for my motherboard, the CPU is in fact "not" supported by it.
The CPU has a 6MB cache, and the motherboard can support up to a maximum of 2MB cache.

But since my computer is running well and everything, is it dangerous for my computer? Do I really need to change the CPU?

Thanks in advance !

Thats odd. It supports all of the new CPUs, even the 6 core models. What BIOS revision are you running? Eventhough that CPU is not specifically listed, it seems like it should be recognized.

It should not hurt the CPU to run it as is. Just make sure the voltage and other settings are correct. In olden days I ran mobile CPUs on desktop motherboards all the time and had to look at that "Unrecognized CPU" message a lot.

Updating the BIOS might do the trick.

Im assuming this Is the motherboard you have. You are correct, it does not support that CPU the 920 is A 125 watt AM3 CPU, that board is a AM2+ board and does support am3 CPUs, but only up to 95 watts. Now, it is working, which is indeed a rarity but it does work. The lower wattage, could explain why its not showing the proper cache. Im surprised its even running at the right frequency. Personally, this is my advice-instead of swapping out CPUs, I would save up for a AM3 board and ddr3 ram. that 6 mb cache can make a world of difference. Watch the newegg shell shocker deals, thats where I got my last motherboard memory combo for a great price.
