Hi all

so my laptop LCD screen is extremely dark, I mean you can barely make out the acer logo on boot up. An external monitor works fine. Its not a case of pressing the FN and screen brightness keys, that doesn't work and its far to dark to just be a simple problem like that.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

The backlight has probably failed.

Hi mate. Thanks a lot for your quick reply.

I actually ordered an LCD inverter off the net because I thought that was it and it turns out it wasn't because when I replaced the LCD inverter it was still dark.

So my question is in your opinion if the backlight fails is it possible to replace just the backlight? I know the whole LCD screen itself is going to cost at least £80 pound plus shipping (about €100 or over $100) and to fix an old laptop like this is barely worth it.

Let me know what you think. I'm off to google this backlight issue now.

I don't think there is a simply way, that I know of, to replace just the back light. Normally I've just replaced the entire screen and keep the cable and inverter (if they're good).
