My wife's computer running on VISTA is running extremely slow. It is brutally slow logging on (15-20 minutes) and can take a long time toload programs, etc. I loaded Autoruns and there are a lot or things that load at startup but I am fearful to make changes without advice from an "expert" and it seems there is more to it as slow as it runs.
I realize this is a very broad "problem" and would appreciate some ideas on ways to determine and fix potenital issues.

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.
Checkmark following boxes:
Click Go and post the result.

No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type:

Attach the file to your next reply.
Checkmark following boxes:
- List last 10 Event Viewer log
- List Windows version, partition and memory size.
Click Go and post the result.

To start with:
You may have hard drive problem.
There is also a lot of startups and a lack of RAM. Vista runs much better with at least 2GB of RAM installed.
Let's start with checking your drive....
Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable.
