Hi all,

This problem has been occurring on and off for a few months now. Sometimes when I boot up my PC (Vista OS) the CPU fan starts whirring and seems to be running at full tilt. Sometimes the PC even switches itself off after displaying a brief message relating to the fan. Usually after this happens I reboot the PC and the fan is perfect???? Can anybody please help me with this.

Thanks a million,

Bunks

It could be overheating. Please a take a screenshot of HW Monitor and post it in the next reply.

What is the make and model of this computer?

Is it cold in the room when you start the computer?

Purchase some canned air and blow out the vents. If it is as badly impacted with dust as you described you may need to have a repair person open the case and blow it out. If you are comfortable with attempting this yourself, you probably can find instructions online to open the case. Since you didn't provide the model number of this Acer I can assist you in that respect.
