I have a Pavilion a6700y machine that a customer brought me, Vista 64-bit. It is having trouble with the network drivers for the onboard LAN card and aftermarket WLAN card. I have uninstalled the hardware, deleted drivers, and loaded fresh drivers from respective sites. I have added an additional NIC and USB Wireless device, but they present the same problems. I believe the issue was caused by a virus that the customer removed themselves, but I cannot find anything to help fix the issue.
Anyone seen this before? How did you get it resolved?

Did they say what kind of virus and the name of it?
My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

They did not. It was more of a hunch than a confirmed fact, based on the way the computer was acting when I got it.
It seems that I remember reading about problems similar to this when a CD/DVD drive is uninstalled. Something about upper and lower limits, deleting a registry key, and Windows rebuilding it. Any ideas where the registry entries are located for networking hardware?

Have you downloaded the drivers from http://www.hp.com?

New drivers, new hardware with drivers...every time I load anything the network adapters are present in the Device Manager with a yellow triangle and an error code of 'cannot load device driver (code 31)'

then the devices are dead, and are unable to operate.
What happened to this computer, did something get spilled on it?

It is a desktop, and it was brought into my shop this way. Even if the devices are dead, I have installed new networking hardware, a PCI NIC and a wireless USB adapter. They both act the same way upon installation: unable to start device because the driver cannot load.
I think this is a registry issue, or some type of software problem, but I have yet to run across anything that can resolve it without reformatting. Unfortunately, the customer disabled System Restore.
Any other thoughts? Thanks for the suggestions so far!
