pc hangs when configure updates stage 3 of 3 windows will not start

Hi i am trying to get my grandsons paCKARD BELL laptop running again it just hangs when it gets to configuring updates stage 3 of 3 we have left this running for hours to see if it will complete but it does not we have tried booting in safe mode but still the same help please

Hi hamluis that i am not absolutley certain of but i would think so because they have it to auto update and after most recent updat shut down pc as instructed and now it just sits there config updates stage 3 of 3 and will not move further if leave it on to see if it completes afterr about 5 mins it shuts down and restarts and keeps cycling like that
