When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix log. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

It was one of the first things suggested I do to solve my google redirect problems and everything seems to be in order now. But I am terrified, I've been reading everywhere that if you run this on windows 7, your computer will stop working soon after the scan and reboot has completed. This is my school laptop and that is the last thing I want to do. Is this a legitament fear, does TDSSKiller.exe really ruin windows 7 computers? Is there anything I can do to prevent my computer dying? Or should things work fine and the cases I read about are rarities.

May I recommend that you follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.

I'm not sure if that's entirely necessary but I'll give it a try. I'm just wondering if others have had experience with windows 7 failing after running TDSSKiller.exe

Whether something like that occurs really depends on what type of malware infection you are dealing with. If critical system files are involved which relate to booting up a machine and those files are not replaced properly, bootup failure can occur with any operating system. The TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) is a specialized tool created by Kaspersky specifically for TDSS rootkit infections. I have successfully used it while assisting users with Windows 7 machines, and I have yet to encounter a bootup problem but am aware that in some cases that can happen.
