BleepingComputer.com: Hi Peep's I Have A Friend Who Wants To Go Wireless

My friend sadly lives a long way away from me >

He has a BT ADSL Modem connected to an old Win 98SE PC using a USB cable (thats works OK) ;).

He has just got a new PC that has Wireless built in, he wants to get the Internet on Both with File sharing.

He knows he has to get a Wireless Router to get started, but i have now found out that he has a problem

His Modem is ONLY USB. His old Win98SE is also USB only !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am now on uncharted ground, i reckon there is a cable around that has USB one end and Ethernet the other, so he needs TWO of these, but the sockets are different, on his old Computer he has one type of USB socket, while on his Modem he has the other type of socket, SO HOW DO I SOLVE THIS ONE please. any ideas anyone, please

I'm replying 'cause we prefer you do not use the email address as a username.
It's mainly 'cause you might conceivably get problem emails as a result.

To change your username, find your My Controls at the top of a page.
On that page, top left sidepanel will show compose new message

Click that, and under recipient enter Grinler

Your message would ideally be something like "just learned I should change my nickname"
Include a new username.

send the message ... it will be a little bit before the change can be enacted -

Have him contact his ISP and see if they will allow him to exchange his DSL modem for a combination modem\router. Here it is common for the Teleco (BellSouth) to send a modem that has a router built in. I receved one for my buiness that had a modem, 4-RJ45 wired ports, and wireless 802.11g routering in one device.
You are going to have to purchase a router ($40 to $150 USD depending on options) anyways so why not have your friend buy one fom the ISP that he knows will be compatible with BT's system? They may even give him one. If not the one they sold me cost only $80 USD.
