Quick question about Dual channel Use just 2 or try to fill all 4

Hi all,

I was just wondering if I were to put 2x2GB stick in a dual channel motherboard or 4x1GB sticks is there a noticeable performance gain? I thought I read that it didn't matter, but I could be wrong.

if its a dual channel motherboard, it shouldnt matter, because either way you do it, when set u properly, whether using 2 sticks or 4, its still dual channel.

I didn't think it mattered but my friend was saying there is better performance running 4 sticks versus only 2.

not really, if set up properly. As long as your using the two channels linked together for dual channel there shouldnt be any change. On top of that, if you decide you need more ram in the future its cheaper to upgrade-you can throw in another 2 x 2 gig set for 8 gigs, if you wanted to upgrade with the 4 x 1 set, youd have to toss out the 4 1 gigs and order another 4 sticks of ram.
