BleepingComputer.com: Display driver problems w/Youtube No problems as yet on Netflix/ Hulu

First thing I did was to be sure I have the latest driver, I did, and do.
I have the ATI Radeon Express 1150 version 8.31.100.32
Laptop is a Dell Inspirion 1501 running Windows Vista Home Premium

This is not a one time thing. It was a "never happens" thing till today and BSOD has happened 5 times so far. Very irritating.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

One more strange finding.....If I get on facebook where I can watch the Youtube video from face book, a news feed, or other video sites I have no problems at all...This seems to only be a problem if I go to the YouTube website. I cannot watch a 5 minute video while on Youtube without BSOD. :/

My wife reported the same problem to me on her laptop today (and of course it's been bugging her for weeks )

The fix I used was to disable the ATI External Event service - after this, I was able to watch a specific video that would crash every time without issue...

Assuming you're using Windows 7:

Click Start
Right Click on Computer
Click on Manage
Click the arrow next to Services and Applications
Click on Services

In here, you'll find the Ati External Event service running (or something like that - I'm typing this on my computer - go NVIDIA).

Right click on the service and click on Properties
Change the Startup Type to Disabled
Hit Apply and then OK
Reboot

I found on another forum that disabling it shouldn't have any impact on the system (on her's things appear fine after testing things for about 10 minutes - then she wanted to watch youtube videos )

Did not help my situation at all. Thanks for the info anyway. These forums must keep techs busy.

Looks like your problem is tied to ATI drivers from the blue screen viewer. Try updating your video drivers -- (Don't forget to uninstall the old drivers first).

If the problem persists with new drivers, but never happened in the past, you may consider trying an older driver version and see if that helps -- I've seen situations where new drivers introduce new problems, unintentionally on the part of the developer of course.

Give that a shot and post the results.

That could be the solution as at the moment Nvidia's drivers are buggy.
