BleepingComputer.com: Can't get Internet access through router

I recently reset my router to reconfigure it. Now that I have reconfigured it I don't have Internet access, and this is for both a wireless connection and connecting to the router with ethernet. However, I do have Internet access when connecting directly to my modem via ethernet. Anyone have any ideas?

A couple questions, what is make and model of your router? When you say "reset to reconfigure", do you mean you set it back to factory settings and thats it, or once you reset to factory settings you then changed settings? If so, what settings did you change?

It's a Linksys WRT110. I did set it back to factory settings, and afterwards used the installation disc to set-up the configuration which basically just entails the basic stuff such as changing the web interface password, setting the SSID, choosing encryption and the key. I have network access just fine, it's just that I can't get Internet access now through the router. Tried several different things over the course of several hours and have tried with two different computers.

• List IP configuration

Click Go and post the result.

I would like to see a screen shot of the network configuration on your PC. Open a command prompt and type: ipconfig/all > c:\ipconfig.txt This will save the results of ipconfig to a file at the root of your C: drive, you can then post the results in a reply.

Was this log made while connected through the router?

I was actually connected wirelessly to the router and then plugged into my modem with ethernet for Internet access. I can re-run anyway that would be helpful, just let me know..

If so, "ping" command result indicates, that your connection is perfectly fine.
What does indicate, you don't have a connection?

I can connect my computer directly to my modem via ethernet and I have Internet. It's when trying to utilize my wireless router that I can't get Internet access (and I also don't when connecting to the router via ethernet). So it's something with going through the router that is inhibiting Internet access.

What was the reason for resetting router?

Make sure, your computer is set to obtain IP address automatically.
1. Go Start>Settings>Control Panel (Vista/7 users: Start>Control Panel)
2. Double click Network Connections (Vista/7 users: Network and Sharing Center)
3. Vista/7 users - From the list of tasks on the left, click Manage network connections.
4. For a wired network connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
For a wireless network connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then select Properties.
5. From the General tab (Vista/7 users: Networking tab), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), make sure it is checked, and then click Properties
6. Click Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and then click OK.


Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"


Restart computer.

Do I need to be totally disconnected from modem and router when performing this?

When I performed this I was disconnected from modem, but still was connected wirelessly to the router and I'll tell you what I got and you tell me what I need to do:

ipconfig /flushdns worked
ipconfig /registerdns it said that "the requested operation requires elevation"
ipconfig /release I think worked
ipconfig /renew I think worked
net stop "dns client" it said "System error 5 has occured. Access is denied."
net start "dns client" I think it said the service was already started.

No, I want you to be connected normally. Computer>router>modem.

You must run "cmd" as administrator.

Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista and 7), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista and 7, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).
