I don't think, you have any security issues.
I've seen number of computers, where Kaspersky scan refuses to run, no matter what.

You can try one more scan...

Please, run F-Secure Online Scanner

  • Disable your Antivirus program.
  • Checkmark I have read and accepted the license terms.
  • Click on Run Check button.
  • Quick scan (recommended) option will come pre-checked. Don't change it.
  • Click on Start button.

That scan ran just fine, found one infected file, which it removed. My question was not about a security issue, M0le was working on that angle, and cleaned up my security problem. My issue was whether there was a problem with Internet Explorer that may, or may not need some attention.

Sometimes Internet Explorer's protected mode can interfere with online scans. Right-click on the Internet Explorer icon and select "Run as administrator" from the context menu, then try running the Eset scan.

I only tried it in IE. 1st try it hung, 2nd try after restarting the computer (and remembering to snooze the AV), it started to load signatures then gave an error message about not completing the update, but started to run the scan anyway. At that point, I stopped the scan and restarted from the beginning, and this time it loaded everything and ran fine. I never tried using Firefox.

Actually, I think that I started IE via run as administrator when I was running the scans, but is that protected mode also known as Data Execution Prevention. Because on one of the scans it did pop up a bubble in the notifications area saying something about DEP causing a program to stop running.
