Help
Hello friends,
After many hours re-organising my files from my desktop HDD to an external HDD, it seems almost all files have disappeared from the external HDD.
Any chance of being able to retrieve the missing files.

Files don't arbitrarily disappear. Exactly what did you do?
You can use a 3rd party app such as Recuva to find files that may have been deleted (http://www.piriform.com/recuva)

I just downloaded Recuva and is currently running a deep scan, it is showing that will take 8 hours to complete. Its a 500gb drive. Is that normal ?
Exactly what did I do you say, nothing that I am aware of. I unplugged the drive to connect to my laptop and I then noticed my files were missing. I returned to the desktop and was confronted with scan and repair which I did, but still no files.

Did you use "safely remove hardware" when you pulled it from the desktop?

No, Ive never done it that way. I just pull out the usb cable from the port.

A deep scan using Recuva can easily take hours to complete, especially on a big drive. Nothing to worry about, just let the scan go.

Hi friends,
The deep scan has finished, all files have been recovered, thats the upside. The downside is I have to re-organise all the files into folders.
I was hoping the recovery process would return folders with there files as they were before. Anyhow, I have to be grateful that I have all my important files back.

You know, I have to admit that I usually do it that way too - but I know for a fact that we risk this very problem by not using the "safely remove hardware" applet. Just something to think about moving forward.
