Search around the internet for "free youtube downloader." I haven't used them in a long time, so I can't name any right off. I seem to recall one that you entered the URL of the video on and it gave you a .mp4 download link.

would the youtube downloader also work on sites such as college humour or just youtube?

i was thinking about making a montage of some clips of the funniest vids ive seen and then uploading them. and i before i did that,i would of course ask permission. but i would like to try it out.

Yup and it will work on any embedded video, not just Youtube. And that's the problem with most of the video downloaders. A lot of them only work on Youtube because it's the most popular site. The only kind of clip Real won't download are DRM protected clips and a button will pop up at the top right hand corner of the clip and tell you if you can download it.
