Here are signs I usually see. A fake svchost.exe is running as a system process. It usually can take upwards of 600k CPU usage and slows down my computer significantly when I let it run too long. After closing it it comes back up later. Sometimes when it does, my firefox will close, I hear a bleep noise, and usually my audio service stops running. I have to go back to my control panel and restart my audio service again, which sometimes doesn't work and then I have to restart the laptop altogether.
I get pop-ups every so often, and once left on overnight I got flooded with them. I get lots of google redirects, sometimes to bad search engines and sometimes to fake anti-malware. Other times I'll click on a link and get a message saying its an attack site. I haven't been anywhere suspicious, some of my roommates may have but hopefully not. If this traveled via wireless network I'd like to know a way to fix that issue.
I have been paranoid of connecting to any other wireless networks at other houses, and have yet to hook up my harddrive to this laptop because of this frustrating malware. I was led to combo fix, but decided to post my problem here first. Sometimes my explorer bar will turn from blue to simple grey, my audio icon will disappear and if I can click on it it usually says no audio mixer devices found. Generally explorer.exe can have random crashes. I usually have to restart the PC if it locks up.
I have also done a full system scan with MBAM and PandaSecurity ActiveScan. I have also done a scan with HijackThis and removed some things deemed unimportant.
Thank you for your time.
