Same thing happened with my Son's computer. Turned out to be the mother board.

His was about 5 years old, lots of mileage so i advised him to scrap it. He wanted a new one anyway. Hang loose, somebody else might have better advice.

I see you said no OS running. Does that mean not any sounds from the OS starting? That familiar XP startup tune? If you can hear that, have you tried hooking up an external monitor to rule out a burnt out display bulb?

there is no sound or vision (i checked the arrow keys)what type of connection would i need to hook up to another laptop

You would not hook up another laptop. What I was suggesting was an external monitor only, using the output on the back of the nonworking laptop. But since you don't hear the OS startup sounds, I think my suggestion would be fruitless, as it seems to be more serious than a burnt LCD bulb.
