computer giving video card RAM

ok this is a little weird...every since i installed my new 2 gig stick of ram my computer was only showing a 1.25 gig increased in ram (to 3.25) i figured out where the other ram was going and that was to my video card..a readon hd 4300....i found this out when games and canyourunit.com was showing my card having more ram than it actually did...now i wouldnt be complaining but but it is a little weird seeing as how there is no increase in what i can run at. Ive check all throughout XP and through my bios setting and nothing...

if ya can think of anything that i may have looked over please let me know...

So how much (physical) RAM do you now have installed and what operating system are you using. No 32 bit system can access more than about 3.5 GB of RAM.

My 32bit Vista OS is right now reporting 3582 Mb total memory available ( in SIW -- CPU and Memory Usage), but if I go to SIW -- Memory it shows 4096 MB total memory (I have 4 x 1GB RAM installed). Control Panel - System says: Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB, below it says: 32-bit operating system.

Some systems can assign 'chunks' of RAM to video memory, which is probably why you're seeing it show up in games, etc.

Im guessing your using a 32 bit OS. Like Bill has said, 32 Bit OSes are limted to between 3.25 to 3.75 gigs of ram usable, depending on system resources, with 3.75 being the absolute max and rarely seen. If its a 32 bit OS and its showing 3.25 gigs of ram out of 4, then I would say it is operating normally.

FWIW: I have 2 systems running 32-bit XP, each with 4GB of RAM...the most ever reflected was 3.37 useable, the norm now is 3.25 for XP on those systems. I use onboard video, sound.
