can you boot in to it using the bios settings for example using one of the F keys it should display which ones when the computer starts up. usually F1, F10 or F11. When you do you should be able to restore your computer to either a previous state or to a factory default using an image stored on the partition so i would suggest if it offers you the option to back up your files before doing this then do so.

I tried to do both with no good outcome,
I requested the compaq cd for that computer in particular.
I, in another disk was able to do a restore but i'm trying see if there is anyway to do a good fix. without having to reinstall everything back.

Hi, I have the same problem with VISTA on my Dell XPS. It froze today then would not restart, tried in Safe Mode, would automatically start searching fro a start up fix and then cant find one. System Restore also showed as successful but the computer wont restart. The error I found was c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe is CORRUPT.
From what Ive read, I will need to get into my computer, which I cant in any mode, backup my docs and photos, THEN use the vista disc and reinstall the program
Have you had any success?
