I am having a 4 year old HCL desktop with following configuration
1. Intel Pentium Dual Core processor 2.66 Ghz
2. L1 cache-16 KB & L2 cache-1024 KB
3. 768 MB DDR1 RAM
4. Mother Board – 8I865GM/GMF-775
5. Video card Intel 82865G Graphics controller (On board)
6. BIOS award Software International, version- F8cHI, size- 384 KB
7. OS- Windows XP Pro SP3
8. Hard disk-80GB
Most of the games brought from the market do not play on my system probably due to old hardware. Pl suggest me what upgrades I can do on my system to make it compatible with most of the latest games (& also to make it a bit future proof). My budget is around Rs 10000 but I can spend more if really required. Also pl suggest a value for money option.
Thanks
Pankaj Mittal

wait 10,000 US dollars? with that much cash u can get the best of the best and if thats true i would just trash the old system and get a new one....even if its only 1000 US i would get a new system...
can u get newegg.com? just post backand if u want a parts list i will be happy to make one....

but as for upgrades....the ddr1 ram is slowing u down a lot most new games take 2gig ddr2 minimum (so does windows 7) so getting a new motherboard, ram, and a dedicated graphics card would make the most difference, but sadly with the new vid card u will probably need a new psu which pretty much means ure gunna have to just start new anyways...so imo just get a whole new pc

Reading is Fundamental.

10K Indian Rupees is about $220 US.

I cannnot in good conscience recommend upgrading that system. None of the parts that can be installed in a DDR1/AGP board can play the latest games at acceptable framerates. Add to that, no components can be carried over to a new build.

If you are set on upgrading, try to find an HD3850 AGP, and another gig of RAM. Sadly, you will have to pay a premium for those outdated components even if you buy them used.

For the latest game, a new system would be a much better option rather then upgrading.

On the same note, if one doesnt have the money, one doesnt have the money. I would have to know the PSU before I could recomend anything as powerful as a 3850 even.

I'd be curious...to know what games you intend to play on this revamped system. Knowing that might help with suggestions.

Good point to make Louis :clapping: The pentium dual core isn't that bad for gaming since i used a lower version of it for gaming and upgrading the ram would be a good idea.
