Thanks for your help. Is Windows Messenger harmful to your computer? does it give off ad-ware or spy-ware or anything harmful? should i uninstall?

While it is not harmful, it can be the source of annoying popups. It's purpose was to allow system administrators to broadcast messages to its users, such as expected interruptions in service; most home users have absolutely no need for it, and it should be disabled.
