I have an HP Pavilion a1110Y that I want to upgrade the memory in. The motherboard is an ASUS PTGD-LA, which is a dual-channel architecture board, supporting PC3200U memory. I currently have 2 512MB DIMMS, 1 DIMM in each of the 2 slot-pairs. I want to add at least 1GB more memory. I have had some issues with dual-channel architecture before. If I get 2 1GB DIMMS (the same kind), can I put them both in 1 slot-pair and the 512MB DIMMS in the other slot-pair? Or should I put 1 of each type of DIMM in each of the slot-pairs?

You should get 3 of these which run at 533mhz, your current one runs at 400mhz. You want to have all the same speed, so your gonna have to take out the 2 512mb ram. In total you will have 3GB of ram, unless you want 4GB ram which will use all your slots up.

Yes, that's the correct sequence for dual-channel operation to have the best chance of success. The same value DIMM should go in the same respective location in each channel. Some memory controllers don't care about the order, but you might find if you have different capacity DIMMs, it will only work correctly in one sequence, eg 1GB then 512MB or vice versa. The important part is the same in channel A as in channel B.
