$$ permitting in the near future I plan on upgrading at least one of my PC`s to the paid version for the additional real time protection it provides.
Have read many a fine review on it. Some right here on BC from the one and only Quietman7.

I was just wandering what kind of antivirus is good. I have unistalled Mcafee and put Charter Internet security suite on for now. I use to use Kaspersky but it was a little hard for me to use and really slowed my computer down. What are some of your suggestions?

Two highly thought of Free AVs are Avast and Avira. Paid vers. of both are available as well.
I have little experience with Avira but am very familiar with Avast.
If when installing Avast you choose the Custom option you can pretty much tailor it to your machines needs. Example. If you do not use an Instant Messenger, do not use P2P file sharing, are not on a network, only the Internet then these features, Shields, can be eliminated from the install. This eliminates unnecessary processes and lessens the load on your PC`s resources. Giving you good protection while minimizing any slowing effects on your machine.

I had the same problem with McAfee on Win XP, i just installed a Java Runtime application and after that was working perfectly. I also payed for an anual fee, i have antivirus and firewall too. Recently switched to Windows 7 64 bit, installed McAfee link for a latest version (with no subscription), installed Java but i cannot load the antivirus'interface properly (i cannot scan).
It seems to be a inconvenient from the program requirements, i think i'll switch to Avast or Malwarebytes after reading this.
EDIT: VirusScan 11 is not most current version, released in 2008, and is trial version ~ Hamluis.
