Whenever I click on the Windows Updata Catalog I get directed to a site which appears in German. My knowledge of German is very limited hence of no use. I am unable to find a function enabling me to get the details in English.
Please also bear in mind that my PC knowledge is somewhat limited. A novice is how I would consider myself
Thanks

Are you trying to access Windows Updates?
Try this link: Microsoft Windows Update
Has this happened before? Or with any other sites?
Because it seems that you are being re-directed, which could be a sign that your computer is infected.
So there could be malware present on your system.
What security programs do you have and scan your system with?

Windows Updates & Windows Catalog.
I am sorta thrown off by your description of which you are using, DHL.
One will take you to windows updates, and you will need to verify genuine winxp install these days to make it work properly.
The other is similar, taking you to a page that links you to a wide variety of download sites accessible by a search feature.
Both should work, if/only if the install was/is from a microsoft CD.
If your PC has windows preloaded from the factory, additional factors exist.
Again, your OS should be able to ID itself as "genuine", however.
I think the issue may be either related to the new ms identification procedures or possibly
you are being "re-directed" when using this (these) buttons. If that be the case, you probablyhave malware present doing the deed, and should post a HJT log for analysis.

Sorry for not responding before but had some probs with PC since posting my thread. However all is well and since sorting out probs which had nothing to do with Windows Updata Catalog, pleased to info that it is now resolved. The method of resolving that prob was as follows:
Go to Tools in IE, Internet Options, Languages. Having got there, it is self explanatory thereafter. In my case English was not showing. The only entry was German and having added English everything is now fine.
Required page appears in English.
