I only used Combofix suggested and monitored by someone who knows what theyre doing, - that was a dead end too though.
They were very clear on its proper use before giving up on the case.

Just a quick question if I may jump in.

Was it here at BC that you were instructed to use ComboFix, or at another help Forum?

If at another Forum, could you provide a link to the thread? May, or may not help us here.

Hi! :)
Hmm, it was a very long time ago, but Im pretty sure that it wasnt you guys... The forum interface doesnt look too familiar to me.
Ill try to look for it! :)

If it was some time ago then it is`t probably relevant now.

It very well may have been here at BC. The Forum recently went through a software upgrade. So it does appear quit different.

How old is the current install?

Many will say that a fresh install is needed every 3 to 5 years. If you are constantly installing\uninstalling programs as well as recovered from an infection(s). Which may or may not have been properly removed. The OS may just have finally reached a state of such disarray\corruption that it is unrecoverable back to it`s original state.

I know it is not what you wanted to hear......

This installation is 2 or a bit over, I think...
I know exactly what youre saying, and I know youre right, and also that any sane person in my situation would buy 7 or something.
But thats why I came to the best, - to do something that to anyone else would seem utterly impossible.

You can try a running chkdsk /r.

Downloading the latest drivers for the system from the OEM site. Uninstalling\reinstalling them from you d\l`s.

Unsure why you are leery of reinstalling SP3. If you should decide to do so then I would do it after running the chkdsk, but prior to uninstalling\reinstalling the drivers.

Your confidence in the Crew at BC is appreciated. But even we have our limitations. Which are tied directly to MS and it`s OS`s abilities and limitations.

As of last July Microsoft no longer provides support for Windows XP without SP3. The updates are important to the security of your computer, it's worth installing. Afterward, if you feel so inclined you can do manual updates where you can pick and choose which updates to select, if you know enough to evaluate what is needed or not.

Done chkdsk multiple times, no problems.
Call it intuition, I dont know, I just have a feeling that if I try to reinstall SP3 Ill reach a non bootable stage.
I know its my best option though.
I guess I got exited when I finally pin pointed the problem, and thought that someone like you guys could help me with it.

I am running SP3, and funny, the only thing that most programs can tell is that Im running XP 32 bit and SP3, and then they quit there and stop installing.
I have tried to manually install the most needed updates, but in the end they behave the same way as all the other programs.
