MOD EDIT: I would prefer you ask in the XP section on these items as they know them better than I. I felt it may be an XP issue before moving to the Malware section.

System still very slow on start-up and during searches. What else can I do?
Checked the AVG PC tune-up utilities under system information. Hope this helps.

Try opening IE, then go Tools/Manage Add-ons.

Disable all browser add-ons and see how your system runs.

Let us know :).

The issues above pertain to Firefox. plugin-container.exe is how Firefox handles plugins now.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Is there anything I can do to fix the above issues? I have lost my play list completely from iTunes and they were of no use in telling me where I might find it. It has to still be on my hard drive right? And slow...I'm aging as I type this.

I would remove Mozilla Firefox with the following: Revo Uninstaller Free, but before you do backup your data like bookmarks and stuff.

Not to trifle with your generosity, but what does Mozilla have to do with anything? I've had Mozilla for more than 2 yrs with no problems. My slowdown started only a couple of weeks ago. Please forgive my lack of understanding.

Nothing. I'd be more inclined to look at something you downloaded with bearshare :)

The bolded items are related to Mozilla - What is Plugin-Container.exe?

The BearShare is probably a toolbar that was installed, because when you installed BearShare you had it install the toolbar: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/700250

WIC I assume is World In Conflict

Quicktime.qts is more then likely Quicktime and has a addon/plugin associated with it.

Hotplug.dll is a tool used to remove devices that are still plugged in and turned on safely.

Please perform the requested action by me above.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

cryptodan, Thank you for the explanation. May I please ask some clarifying questions? 1) When I take Mozilla off using the Revo Uninstaller, do I or should I put it back on? I will be destroying WIC disk immediately. My son did attempt to download bearshare, I have removed anything that resembles it that I could find. I did do a search for plugin-container.exe, and removed. Can I safely remove the hotplug.dll?

Sorry to be a pain. My understanding of how things work is very limited. I'm really good at doing what I'm told as long as it makes sense to me. Thank you for your patience.

hotplug.dll is probably unrelated.

1) Yes you can reinstall Mozilla Firefox from http://www.getfirefox.com

2) Plugin-container.exe will be removed when you remove Firefox, however, it will be reinstalled but we can disable if you want too.
