That apppears to be a MCE PC...so MS.NET 1.1 should have been installed with it.

Net Framework 3.5, SP1 did not come on that PC and it should uninstall routinely.

I suggest that you use the tool previously linked to, http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Blog_Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip and run it.

Then...install NET Framework 1.1 .

Reboot the system...then install NET Framework 3.5, SP1 .

Then go to Windows Update and install any applicable critical updates.

That's only a KB/update...not the basic installation of 3.5, SP1.

Ignore that...reinstall 3.5, SP1, as previously suggested.

See attached screen shots :

shot 1 - installed 3.5 Sp1

Prob still occurring.

shot 2 I managed to then delete 3.5 SP! , which I hadnt managed to do before.

Still occurring

shot 3 - 3.5 SP! has now re-appeared, without me trying to install it knowingly.

Computer still keeps runing msiexec, mscorsvw , and windows update icon in system tray constantly.

My solution for the update icon...is simply to turn off automatic updates. Manually clicking an icon to go to Windows Update...doesn't seem to do me or my systems any harm.

If you want to investigate processes running in Task Manager...I suspect that Process Explorer should be your tool of choice.

Beyond that...sorry, but I can't add anything useful.
