BleepingComputer.com: Recycle Bin Error

Hi all,

About 2 days ago my recycle bin began giving the following message when trying to empty it:



The problem is that there is no ACTUAL file in the bin to remove.
2 days ago there was a video tutorial file which I could not delete from my hard drive so i downloaded "Unlocker" software to remove it and began getting this error message since then.

I have tried to delete it in safe mode, tried to delete c:\recycler as well but to no avail.

Any help on this matter would be kindly appreciated,

Please download OTM by OldTimer and save to your Desktop.

• Double-click on OTM.exe to launch the program. Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  
• Copy the file(s)/folder(s) paths listed below - highlight everything in the code box and press CTRL+C or right-click and choose Copy.

• Return to OTM, right-click in the open text box labeled "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  
• Click the red MoveIt! button.
  
• The list will be processed and the results will be displayed in the right-hand pane.
  
• Highlight everything in the Results window (under the green bar), press CTRL+C or right-click, choose Copy, right-click again and Paste it in your next reply.
  
• Click Exit when done.
  
• A log of the results is automatically created and saved to C:\_OTM\MovedFiles \mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log <- the date/time the tool was run.

--Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot your computer in order to finish the move process. If asked to reboot, choose Yes. After the reboot, open Notepad, click File > Open, in the File Name box type *.log and press the Enter key. Navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, open the newest .log file and copy/paste the contents in your next reply. If not asked, reboot anyway.

Unfortunately it didnt

the problem is still there!

What OS are you using?

Windows XP Profesional

In XP you can try using the Recovery Console to delete the Recylcer folder and let Windows rebuild it after reboot.

To enter and use the Recovery Console, follow these STEPS.

• When you get to the prompt, type: rmdir /s C:\RECYCLER
  
• Press Enter.
  
• After confirming that the folder name is correct, press Y.
  
• Remove the XP CD, type exit and press Enter to restart the computer normally.
  
• After reboot a new recycle bin will be created by Windows.

Note: You cannot delete a directory that contains files, including hidden or system files. See Using rmdir at the Recovery Console which explains how to use the dir command to list hidden and system files, and the attrib command to remove hidden and system attributes from files first.

You can also try using rmdir /s C:\RECYCLER from a command prompt but I have found using the Recovery Console to be more successful when dealing with the Recycler Folder.
