tracert and what it does

when looking up an IP from an e mail, if it is from yahoo it will show yahoo´s IP..will a tracert show more, like the geo area it started from?

No a tracert(traceroute) will not show the geographical it originated from. It will show you all the different 'hops' it took from origination to destination. Then you do a search on the originating IP to find more information. It would be a two step process. But just a tracert will not give you everything you want but it will get you half the information.
