Popeye the Sailor used to say that all the time. Youre dating yoruself :hysterical:

Try reseating the data cable on both ends. Dont just push on it, reseat it completely.
If possible try another data cable.
In the beginning there was the command line.

Wells blows me down! Eyesee said the blind man as he hammered and sawed something some.

Thanks for the reply Eyesee. I just tried all that. I even swapped the CD drive itself. Hope that its not the mobo. I am about to put the original drive back, and hope that it magically fixes itself.

I dont know if this has anything to do with my problem, but my computer is taking foREVER to shut down.

Also this seems to be progressively getting worse. Earlier today my machine seen the optical drives, now it does not. I do not see it in explore, control panel, or devices. I can see it in the ("set up cmos screen i think its called") set up before the os boots. But not in windows.

I hear that optical drives don't have drivers, instead its firmware from the manufacturer. Should I try that?
Does the cd that came with the MOBO have anything that may help, or the dreaded original XP cd?

Thank you
Tony

Oh Yes, I almost forgot to mention that lately when my machine gets stuck, and freezes a lot. When this happens I can hit the ctrl alt delete thing and when I check the cpu graph its is usually pegged in the red.

Hows this for aging myself... ("Now I don't know about computers as much as motors butt "pegged in the red" just cant be good.)

I still think you should post in the malware forum here. Worst case, your system is clean. But one way or the other let's rule it out (or in).
