Can ISO files on a hard disc be deleted? If one downloads an ISO file (IMAGE FILE) which is an installer or is a demonstration program and later decides that the file is no longer desired, can the ISO (which may be an installer) be simply deleted? Or does the ISO file do something to the hard disc so that once downloaded, it can no longer be removed?

I'm thinking of this in context of downloading some Linux ISO files to try on an old computer; I would download the ISO of the Linux program onto a new computer, transfer this ISO to a CD, put the CD into the old computer, and test run the Live CD. I would not want to keep the downloaded ISO on the new computer.

Yes. . . an ISO functions as a normal file until it's burned onto a disk. They're no different than documents or pictures.
