Increasing the GPU fan

What are the effects if i increase the graphics card speed up? At the moment it is on 60%, originally it was 50%. I want to increase it to 80% but i worried that it will shorten the life of the fan.

I haven't changed a fan in my computer and I have seven of them running 24/7, has been for four years.

I don't think you should worry about it.

on my 4870's i turned the fans up to 100% cuz these cards get hot (plus i overclocked them)...and havent seen any problems at all

I ran the fan on my 3870 x2 at 60-75% all the time with no problem, and right now I keep the fan on my crossfired 4850 at about 60, with no issues. I leave the fan on the 4890 at default, its cooling system is far better.

Primary system: Motherboard: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 945, Memory: 8 gigs of Patriot G2 DDR3 1600, Video: ASUS ATI 4890 and a Saphire 4890 in Crossfire, Storage: 1 WD 500 gig HD, 1 Hitachi 500 gig HD, and Power supply: Coolermaster 750 watt, OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Media Center: Motherboard: Gigabyte mp61p-S3, Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+, Memory: 6 gigs Patriot DDR2 800, Video: Saphire 4850, Storage: 500 gig Hitachi, PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 550 watt modular PSU, OS: Windows 7 Ultimate.

lol the problem is, is that this was my first build like a year and half ago and i didnt know to much about pc parts and i bought the non-reference xfx cooler...the evil egg cooler which sucks lol so i almost have to keep them at 100% for gaming or they overheat

I'll increase it to 80% and play some games for a few hours and see how high the temp is. Currently when playing games for a few hours the max temp it goes up to 70C, i'm hoping my increasing the fan speed that 70C will be a lot lower.

EDIT
I adjusted the fan to 75% and after playing GTA IV for an hour, the graphics card is only 58C :thumbsup:

Is that a safe temp now?

very much so..thats great temps for a vid card...once u get into the 80+ range it starts to get bad

Do you know how to use Speed Fan? I need to adjust my cpu fan to max because it goes up 55C when playing games and it is just simple Pentium Dual Core 1.6Ghz, although my new processor has arrived which is a Core 2 duo E6700 2.66Ghz which doesn't include the intel fan.

I prefer Rivatuner for adjusting video card fan speed (if its compatible)

That's ok, Rivatuner is bit complicated to use for me.

msi afterburner is quite user friendly and you can set a manual fan speed curve according to temps.

msi afterburner lets you have complete control of your card as i said you can set the fan curves say if you want your fan to run at 40% when temps hit 60 ,50% when they hit 65 60% when they hit 70 and so on what ever you choose plus the fan only ramps up when it needs to thus reducing unnecessary fan usage.
