BleepingComputer.com: Keyboard stopped working!

Goodday Gurus!!!

I have just started up my Sony vaio desktop. The keyboard works in bios, but when i access windows xp, it stops working. I plug it into another usb ports, while windows was adding in drivers such as the "USB Human Interface Device", the keyboard was working. After windows finishes adding in the drivers, the keyboard stopped working. My mouse is working though. I access device manager, systems. and I see that the USB Human Interface driver for the keyboard is there, but under the keyboard category, it doesn't show any keyboard installed. I tried another keyboard, same case. Anybody any ideas?

Oh one more thing, when i ran my ubuntu O/S, it works for the keyboard and mouse.

Is there a driver for the keyboard that you can download and install?
Is it a keyboard with lots of buttons on it?

In the meantime if you need to enter characters, XP has a virtual kybd:
C:\Windows\system32\osk.exe

You could try to uninstall the human interface device from device manager,
or also do a system restore to go back a few days before the problem started.

This is just an ordinary dell keyboard. I tried using mini xp boot through cd, the keyboard works. and It looks like only 1 driver was install which is the hisusb.sys

Right now, when i plug my keyboard in, it install for me the "HID-complian consumer control device", "HID-compliant device", and USB Human Interface device. As far as I know, i should only have the USB HID, not those compliant. Maybe those are giving me problems. any more ideas?

System restore doesn't work. Tried that.

Do you have a different usb kybd to plug in the vaio as a test?

Yup, i did that and same case.
I just tried uninstalling HID-Compliant, and then i click scanned for changes. While it is reinstalling the HID-Compliant back, i hold on to my keyboard keys and managed to get through a few letters typed on a notepad and it stopped working again. I am going for a windows repair now using my cd. But please, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It looks like it works after the repair. I had to remove all the USB drivers, and this time i get a keyboard driver "HID keyboard driver" under keyboard category!

Don't forget to do your Windows updates again, as they are wiped when you do a repair install.
