KVM Switch and Monitor

I have a ViewSonic VX2235wm monitor with duel connectors (VGA DVI). I use a KVM switch to access other computers. What are the ramifications if I connect the VGA port to the KVM and the DVI Directly to my computer? I there a way to safely accomplish this? Thanks in advance.
