Very Dull Screen

Hello All and before i start i would like to say Happy New Year!!
I have had this issue with my laptop for quite a while now, I had to replace a broken inverter power cable
early last year and since then when ever my machine is on battery power the
screen is very,very,very dull, using the fn (f7-f8) for the brightness has no
effect what so ever. The battery is the original that came with the machine but
still holds a good charge, my laptop is an E-System 3086 Intel M420 1.6Ghz 2.0
GB Ram running Windows 7 Ultimate, I know its not the best of machines but it
serves me well and i have had very little problems with it (fingers crossed :wink:

)it
is mainly only used for surfing/email and streaming movies and football (soccer
to the american contingent !!!). Anyway i was wondering if there is some sort of
setting that i am over looking or will it be that i need to replace the battery,
(it is now four years old), though it still holds a good charge up to around 2
hours!!!.

The life of the battery should have no impact on the screen brightness. Sounds to me like a setting in windows that is not allowing it to go over a certain brightness while on battery. Since you mentioned it was just a battery issue, I'm assuming the screen is brighter when running on AC power?

Try changing the "adaptive brightness" settings as listed in this article:

Dim Display After
• On Battery: 0 Minutes

Dimmed Display Brightness
• On Battery: 100%

Click OK
