A program with the above name has recently appeared on my automatic startup list. The Bleeping Computer startup database does not recognize it. Is this a program I really need to startup automatically or can I uncheck it? Is it malicious? Thanks.

Hi Duffer Don -
What Operating system (XP Vista Win7) are you using (Sounds like XP) - Programs that are unticked from Start Up do not automatically fly out of your system -
Have you recently purchased a GPS device, or similar, and done an Update on it ??
You should always run your A/virus and A/malware programs if strange items appear - Is there any other problem at this time with your system ??
XP SP3 Pro Desktop - Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium Toshiba Laptop - Malwarebytes - SUPERAntiSpyware - Microsoft Security Essentials -
HiJack This - SpeedFan - Cannon Printer - ATF Cleaner - TFC Cleaner - ORCA and Internet Explorer Browsers -
Secunia PSI - And I Use GOOGLE -

99.9% rule - if some name doesn't bring a single hit on Google, like in case of gnarmootsbl, you can safely start a new topic in "Am I Infected?" forum.

Thanks, noknojon - I do have XP, have not recently purchased or updated anything like a GPS. My problem was just a sudden change to a very slow operating computer, especially accessing anything from the Internet. I should know to do what you suggested but my old brain needs frequent reminders! So, I ran McAfee A/virus scan which found nothing. Next I opened Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (just the free download version, which I already had on my computer from prior use), ran just the recommended Quick Scan, which found 8 infected items. None of these had the strange name I was looking for but all had names that definitely looked bad. I clicked to remove all, rebooted, confirmed that "gnar..." is no longer on Startup list and all works fine now - thanks again!

Broni - Thanks to you also. Following your suggestion, I also will start a new topic under the "Am I Infected" forum in case it might help others.
