Hello,
I am/was infected with security sheild virus. I followed your instructions on how to remove it and completed almost the whole process. I'm having trouble with the last step and I was hoping you could help me.
I downloaded the hosts-perm.bat link. The black box popped-up and disapeared. When I try to run the host-perm folder, a black box will pop-up and disapear, that's it.
When I right click on the folder and then click edit the folder will open. It says
@echo off
echo,Y|cacls "%WinDir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" /G everyone:f
attrib -s -h -r "%WinDir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"
I have know idea what to do from here. I'm not very computer smart, so could you please respond with a "dumbed down" post? Sorry to ask that but I easily get lost when it comes to fixing computers. On the other hand I am impressed that I made it threw "most" of the removal process. Normally, my goofy neice attempts to fix it. Anyway,
Thank you for your time and help,
missy

Alrighty.
Here's what you need to do
After running hosts-perm.bat, delete C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\HOSTS
Next, right click on the following link and select Save Target As or Save Link As
Windows XP HOSTS File Download Link
Save it in the following location: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc.
Does that make sense?
