Ok, sounds good. I've been gone for a couple days, I will have to try this tomorrow night or over the next couple of days, my hours away from home are going to be extended.
I did reset the TCP/IP before but not the Winsock.

Cryptodan!
Well, here it is in a nutshell. New laptop arrived finally. I got it set-up for internet use, typed in www.paypal.com.......guess what, same problem. Knowing that my desktop was able to access it which is plugged directly into a LAN port, I carry my laptop up and patch in using the same port and patch cable. No access again, even patched directly into the router.
Ok, so I sit scratching my head. I found the manual to the router on the internet, start flipping through it. I find that by pressing the rest button for 2 seconds is the same as a power recycle,this is what I had always done for a power cycle, but, if I hold it in for 15 seconds it will perform a factory default reset. I did not know this as the original manual had disappeared at least 5 years ago.
The router does its thing, type in palpal.com....works!! Now, what the heck would/could this have been? Meaning, the desktop patched in directly would work, but laptop patched in directly (both laptops, one being brand new) not work? Possibly a malware in my router? I just don't get it.
I want to thak you and everyone for your assistance on this, you've been great.

The router firmware/software must have gotten corrupted but its odd that only paypal was affected.
Happy Computing.

I've been following your post because I've had almost the identical problem. A few differences though .. I had no problems at all until I bought a new router and the trouble only happened on the OLD router, and only after I switched back over to it after installing the new one. PLUS, I can not reach paypal.com OR ebay.com. I can reach everything else that I've tried. The new router can reach everything fine but I didn't really like it so I was going to return it .. which is when I started having the problems.
I have tried restoring my old router back to factory settings. I know it was restored because when I logged into the router settings all the default settings were there. The ONLY thing I ever did (before I even bought the new router) was made a policy on my old router to block ebay and paypal on certain computers. The policy only worked for ebay, did not work for paypal because its SSL (or so I was told). I had deleted that policy and was getting access to those sites without any trouble.
By the way .. all the computers in the house are affected. If I plug in my old router, no one can reach either ebay or paypal. I have checked my HOSTS file and there are no readable entries (everything is commented out). The last line says:
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
Could it be something Charter is doing? I have not called them yet. Don't know if I have the patience for that.
@Firefighter, is your's still working correctly?

Sorry for such a delay. Somehow my thread subscription didn't come through. Yes, mine has been working just fine since my last post on this. I assume you found the problem with yours?
