ok obviously this is a big issue and trust me I wouldnt be posting here without first reading as many of the older posts/forums as i could, doing all I could but yet my problem remains unresolved!

I live in a house with two other roommates. About a month ago, one of the roommates neglected to pay our internet bill and services were disconnected. We have a cable internet connection with a linksys wireless network. Up until that point I had a good fast connection. Once service was restored my connection became very slow. I changed nothing on my settings with the router and have gone back several times to confirm that settings are correct but yet my pc still takes forever to connect while the other two roommates (laptops) dont have the same issue. I've tried everything i can think of and followed numerous instructions to get it back to where it was but to no avail! if you can help....PLEASE DO! Thank u!

Try resetting both your router and cable modem
Unplug power to both. Use an ink pin to push and hold the reset button on the router for about 30 seconds.
Power up the cable modem and let it fully initialize then do the same with the router.
I have a Linksys router and have to reset it every once in a while when it drops connection or gets slow.
In the beginning there was the command line.

I'm not sure, what you did, but this is not a result from a speed test....hmmm

You sure, you went here: http://www.speedtest.net/ ?

Those are the results...from clicking the large button, which is for Uniblue Registry.

That's not what you were supposed to click :), although that page makes it seem obvious that it is. You have to be careful when you navigate to any webpage these days...they all seem to be full of devious links to programs that are not desired :).

I suggest that you edit your post and delete that log, since it's useless.

Yes, i did exactly what you asked. I clicked on the link and it redirected to cnet downloads, for the download of Uniblue Registry Booster. I thought it was strange at first, that i was redirected so before I took any action I clicked on the link a few times (from a separate laptop which is working fine by the way) but the result was the same. As far as I know Cnet downloads is always safe stuff so I followed the download. I'm assuming there were different results you were expecting to see?

Yes, I've thought of and done that previously but just to humor myself went ahead and did it again....no effect! But thanks for the input! Any other ideas you might have are certainly appreciated! Thanks

Thanks Broni!
I've tried a ba-zillion times and each time the browser/connection times out before I can get there. Works fine on the laptop but again, no joy on the desktop. I'll keep trying though until I get it!

ok just F'n wonderful! Feel like choppin my head off at this point!!!

Ok Broni,
finally get to the page exactly like the screen shot u sent with the Start Now button, except no map and no Begin Test Button. instead, in that area i get MISSING LICENSE KEY- the license for this Speed Test is missing. Please contact the webmaster of this site to let them know. Again, when I do it on the laptop, which I'm writing from now, it works fine, but obviously that doesnt help me if i need to run the test on the desktop. Any Ideas???

What browser/version is it?
Did you try different browser?

Also....

1. Click Start>Run (Start>"Start search" in Vista).

2. Type in (or copy and paste):

cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$&notepad %temp%\$.$

and press Enter.

3. Notepad will open.

4. Copy all text in Notepad ([Ctrl-A], then [Ctrl-C]), and then post it (paste = [Ctrl-V]) in your next reply.
