When Windows Updates are installing I find some of them installed on the partition I created for my backups. Can anyone tell me why it does this? and is it safe to move them to somewhere like the Windows folder?

Are you talking about folders with long seeming random names, sitting in the root partition of your D partition?
The updates are not installed there - those are just temporary files, should have been hiddem when they were created, and deleted on the next reboot. Windows doesn't always work quite as planned though.
Delete them at your leisure.

Contains two other folders
amd64 and i386 which still have files in them

and
37572196fe488ae7cb256722ad32ab7d
Appear to be empty folders

Most Microsoft installers will extract themselves into randomly named folders in the root of the drive that has the most free space (don't ask me why, I think it's pretty stupid myself...)
