I got something while browsing today. Then I got fake Windows warning that PC is infected and do I want to scan. My browser (IE8) would only go to a probably fake anti-virus program offer page, all other web page attempts said my net connection was not functioning. Closed my Task Manager immediately and my security controls (in control panel) also. My McAfee AV full scan found nothing (worthless POS) but did indicate that it could not complete an update because of a connection problem. Eventually I tried system restore to yesterday and now I can browse or do whatever, but I am worried that whatever caused the trouble is still there. I don't have any screen shots or exact wording of the fake messages at both the task bar and in pop-up warnings. The wording was not very good and I think a word was even ommited from the warning. What to do please. I have WinXP Pro OS.
