Lets check a setting in Windows Explorer.

Open up My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options... > View tab. Is Show hidden files and folders selected?

if they are faded then they are hidden files, sometimes they are part of the OS other times they might be set as hidden by the user or by the OS such as in the 'recycler' folder, unless its disguised as a hidden file/folder by changing the file icon ;)
