BleepingComputer.com: Internet Explorer will not open.. at all..

ok.. I have googled & googled & google.. tried everything they told me to do and it isnt working.. SO I have come to the pros lol.

You guys just helped me last week.. We had to replace our Graphics Card. Now the PC is up and working.. But ever since we did, our internet explorer will NOT do anything.. a few times we got an error message but I can not get it to do it again so I can relay it.

I have uninstalled IE 7...
I have tried to Reinstall IE 7...
... it goes threw the whole install thing, tells me to restart the PC & when it comes up.. nothing..

I tried to start it using the "without add ons" option.. still will not start..
I have tried to click on a link that was saved with IE (shortcut to a webpage.. not link sorry) And it just opens in Firefox.

I would not care but my husband likes to use IE so I am trying to get it back for him..

btw by "not open" I mean when you click on it.. the hour glass appears for MAYBE a second & then goes away.. Nothing opens, no screens appear & no error signs..

I did try a System Restore, but it told me it could not restore it..
I also ran "Systemlook" because I do not have an internet options icon any more & I saw that posted on another "help" type page.. here is the text I received from that.. in case it helps.

Do you have the OS install disk for your machine?

If you did I would try opening the SFC.exe routine and seeing if there are some corrupted system files.

But I bet I am missing something simpler.

System manufacturer and model?

If Firefox works but IE doesn't...it would appear that your IE install is troubled.

Your only current problem...is that IE will not run? No other apparent system hiccups?

Let's try this.

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html.

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.

When scanning is done, Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

Are all the toolbars/add-ons in IE...installed on Firefox?

How did you try to reinstall IE...what steps did you go through?

ok I tried to do that Bluescreenview thing.. and nothing showed up in the white boxes... Was I suppose to start it or something?

As far as How I reinstalled it.. I went threw & followed the steps on Microsofts site.. Uninstalled it via the add/remove programs, then went back to Microsoft & clicked the download thing.. went threw the whole process, restarted the pc when told & it wasnt there.. nothing popped up.. I tried the IE icons and they did not work.. Not sure if there was a step I did not complete after the restart or not...

yes we have the disc. I am going to go try the first suggestion right now..

It is a custom computer. My husband built it. We have minor issues with browser stability.. (basically FF "Does not respond" half the time.. but I think that is a FF issue & has been going on forever)

I believe I have more add ons then IE does... But yes whatever IE had I have on FF...

BTW... did I mention I dont even HAVE Internet Options any more?? It was there before it (the pc) had to have the Graphics card changed... Charged the card & now no IE or Internet options.. could that be related?

Go to control panel, add remove programs.

But, you really should download and install IE8 instead.

The file is in correct location:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetcpl.cpl

Go Start>Run, type this in:
control inetcpl.cpl

Click OK.
Will internet options open?

No.. after I hit okay it just goes away...

Missing Internet Options and system restore problem may indicate some infection.
I suggest, you start new topic in "Am I Infected?" forum to make sure your computer is clean.

Ok I will run over to the virus board & post there...

Btw when I go into my C: windows folder I have IE7 and IE8 updates & a faded out folder.. (so 4 folders) I dont know what you mean by a log file though as I did not see anything in those that is a notepad or says anything about log lol.
