when my computer starts, a box pops up saying windows explorer has to close, which it does, and then not much works especially my computer and control panel.
I am the least computery person in the world, so would need step by step help.
thanx to any brave volunteers

A Task Manager window will come up, and on the first tab there will be a New Task button located in the lower right hand corner, and in the resulting window type in explorer.exe and post back the results.

A black box will appear, and can you then go to Windows by doing the following cd c:\windows and perform the following: dir /s exolorer.exe >> c:\dir_s_explorer.txt
Then navigate to by doing cd \ in the same black window above and perform notepad dir_s_explorer.txt that should open up a notepad with the contents of the file dir_s_explorer.txt, can you then paste the results in your next post?
The bold portions are the exact commands I want you to run.

You should be doing this:
In the black box that comes up with command prompt with the following path listed first c:\documents and settings\username>
You should type in the following:
cd c:\windows>
Your prompt should then change to:
c:\Windows>
At that prompt type in:
"dir /s explorer.exe >> c:\dir_s_explorer.txt"
You can do that without the quotes, they quote dictate that the command should be ran on one line.
You will be returned to the following:
c:\Windows>
Now do this:
cd \
Your prompt will be changed to:
c:\>
At that prompt type in
notepad dir_s_explorer.txt
Please post the contents in your next post here.
