i went to this gift youtube thing and was wanting to know exactly what it is and what happened and am i safe? i changed my password but still don't know what it is. not sure if this is where should ask this or if there is a better place for this.

i clicked on the link then changed my password. not sure if i closed that and opened youtube again to change it though

ok thanks. from what i read it could have done anything from download malware to steal your password to get your account banned so not really easy to know what really happened from doing that.

It's no malware involved. You're doing it YOURSELF. Look at the link Grinler posted, it tells you to spam youtube comments, your account is then suspended as a spammer.
