BleepingComputer.com: Quick Suggestion About The Programming Section...!

Hey Guys, (Mods rather than members),

Well, I don't actually know if this is the right area to be posting this in, or maybe there's a suggestion section I'm unaware of.

Apologies if that is the case.

but i thought it'd be more efficient if the Programming Languages were split for each major programming language.

E.g. C++, Java.

It'll look a lot more tidy, in my opinion. Programming is so vast, y'know!

Perhaps there should be mini moderators for specialists for each language too. hehe.

Thank you for the suggestion; however I need to point out that programming questions are different than language-specific questions. An 'if' statement does the same thing regardless of the language. A 'for' statement does the same thing, regardless of the language. A primitive is the same, regardless of the language. That is programming. An 'if' statement in one language vs another language is just a matter of syntax, and IMHO not worthy of a subdivision since syntactical difference in languages can easily be discovered via one's favorite search engine.

Programming has nothing to do with a particular language. I can teach you programming without you ever having to touch a computer. In fact, if electricity disappeared from the earth forever, I could still teach you programming.

Keeping a separate section for each language would be problematic. There are tons of different languages; keeping a different section for each language would just detract from programming concepts in general.

Yeah, that is right actually...
The Syntax is the same for some/most of the major programming languages.

I agree with Groovicus. An experience programmer may even be able to work the answer out as pseudocode in a language that he doesn't even understand, especially if it is a related language like C is to Java. Also with the rise of .Net as a popular programming environment the distinction is blurred; Basic and C are traditionally polar opposites but if a C# or VB solution is being made in the .Net framework issues are raised regarding inbuilt .net libraries, security, deployment, and so on. Posting a question in the C-family section might mean that an experience VB programmer overlooks it even if he knew that the issue arises due to not including the foo dll or due to checking box z in the security settings.

If a question does really need an expert in a specific language the sensible and responsible thing to do would be to identify that language in the title or the description.
