BleepingComputer.com: where to start?

Hi
I would love to have a step by step guide in keeping my computer in perfect working order (and perhaps helping friends out also). The problem i'm having is knowing where to start. The tutorials are titled but I don't know where to start first, in what order and whether a tutorial is relevant to me or not.

As a beginner, something like...

step 1 First thing to do with your computer is ..............

step 2 The next thing is to ...........

etc etc.

would really help me.
