I have a HP Pavilion dv9700 / 32 bit (did not receive any disks w/ the laptop)

Am so confused at this point & have tried everything. A few days ago, installed Windows Updates, one of them being SP2. First i lost ALL sound. It gets worse:

I tried creating 'restore disks" it says" "Cannot Create Disks"
Next, tried restoring to Factory Condition: "Recovery Partition Cannot Be Found"

Some other errors: "No Video Device Detected"
And it continues on.....

I am totaly Lost to say the least... am disabled & do not have money for a repair person.

No other site, not even Microsoft nor HP gives a straight answer.

BleepingComputers have helped me out greatly in the past....

Please be so kind as to guide me to get my laptop in proper working order.

My Best Regards,
Shadows-Light

http://h20270.www2.hp.com/ediags/gmn2/index.aspx?detectProducts=Start+Detection+%BB&lc=en&cc=us

That will detect your model and give you a list of drivers.

Download/install your video drivers and any other drivers you're missing.

It didn't detect the model of your laptop or the drivers didn't work?

Did you select XP for the operating system?

Do you know the exact model or serial number of your computer?

I searched for your lap top and found over 25 entries, so we will need the exact model or serial number for your lap top to get more information such as system specs.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Okay I was hoping to find the hard drive type so that we can run some diagnostics on it, but can you currently use the PC or is it completely unusable?

I'm only able to use some programs. And programs which I've always had are now gone. I don't even have a "Recovery Partition". There's so much wrong-don't know where to begin :(

I don't know where to find my 'hard drive' type. That's why i copy/pasted everything from System Info"... hoping you would see in in there??

To find your hard drive can you Right Click on my Computer then go to Properties:

1) On the left hand you will see Device Manager Click it.

2) Another window will come up called Device Manager

3) go to Disk Drives and select the + sign next to it.

4) You should then be prompted with the model numbers of your hard drives.

The resulting window should look like this:

So, i hit reply in a different manner this time to make sure the info you are requesting is being delievered to the correct Tech. The last info needed was what Hard Drives are listed in Device Manager:

This is the only one listed is:
The 'Only' one is:

I am Praying so hard/wishing on all stars that you can help me... I've never seen such a mess, esp, after installing an update!
