Then download OTC by OldTimer and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on the OTC icon on your desktop.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
If you receive a UAC prompt asking if you would like to continue running the program, you should press the Continue button.
  • Click on the green CleanUp! button.
  • Click Yes when prompted to Begin cleanup process.
  • When it has finished, OTC will ask you to restart the computer.

-- Doing this will remove any specialized tools downloaded and used. If OTC does not delete itself, then delete the file manually when done.
-- Any leftover folders/files related to ComboFix which OTC did not remove can be deleted manually (right-click on it and choose delete).

For me, renaming Combofix.exe to Uninstall.exe and running it from Safemode (Windows 7 x64) effectively removed the C:\QOOBOX directory.

For some reason, running Uninstall.exe (renamed Combofix.exe) while Windows was started normally would not remove the QOOBOX directory, (nor would I get the Uninstall completed message).

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode designed to start Windows with minimal drivers and running processes to diagnose problems with your computer. This means some of the programs and their related services that normally start when Windows starts will not run while in safe mode. Since that is the case, it also means there are less processes which can interfere with uninstalling a program.

Welcome to BC niteman69

If ComboFix is not on your Desktop, go here, download it from BleepingComputer.com or InfoSpyware.net and save to the Desktop. <-Important!!!
  • Immediately after doing that, follow these instructions to properly uninstall it from your computer.
  • When it has finished you will see a dialog box stating that "ComboFix has been uninstalled".
  • After that, you can delete the ComboFix.exe program from your computer (Desktop).
  • Note: If you encounter any problems using the switch from the Run dialog box, just rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe, then double-click on it to remove.

I followed steps from this thread quite a while ago to get the stubborn Qoobox files off of my computer. After a few months, I noticed a program that removes Empty Directories was being blocked by a strange looking file that I didn't recognize so I followed the file path and lo and behold it was Qoobox. This was almost a year after CF was off of my computer. I followed the steps above and this was 2 months ago. There are still Qoobox files on my computer. Are there any more aggressive methods I could attempt? Thank you.

Did you try the instructions in Post #16 for using OTC?

I'm having problems getting rid of Qoobox..access denied.
I have followed post 12 and 16, and still can't delete it.
When I typed combofix /uninstall, it say's combofix is not on my computer. I renamed it to uninstall.exe, double-clicked and it started running combofix. When it gave me the message that Microsoft Security Essentials was interfering, I was able "x" out of Combofix and it stopped.
I changed the name back to combofix.exe, downloaded OTC, restarted...Combofix and OTC are gone from the desktop, but Qoobox is still on the computer and will not let me delete it.

P.S. Combofix was originally on this computer when I received help removing a virus in another thread...I recently noticed that qoobox was still on the computer.

Retry the steps in Post #12 but be sure to disable MSE and any other anti-malware real-time protection first as they can interfere with ComboFix. Click this link to see a list of such programs and how to disable them.

Still can't remove Qoobox.
I disabled MSE, typed in "Run" Box: uninstall /combofix. Said it couldn't find it.
Restarted in Safe Mode, still couldn't find it. Renamed to uninstall.exe, double-clicked and it ran the full Combofix program.
After Combfix ran, I was able to uninstall from the Run box....got the message that it was uninstalled, and the Icon is gone from the desk top.
Qoobox is still there, and will not let me delete in regular or safe mode. Access denied: BackEnv

Just to confirm, you did reboot after getting the message, it was successfully uninstalled?
